The Perfect Gift

Over the holidays, I had the honor and pleasure of painting this sweet mama and child portrait of some friends of ours.  I worked from a series of photos of them combined with a healthy dose of my own signature style. 

In my regular work, my figures usually come from my mind, with some occasional photo references when I am struggling with a certain angle or detail.  I like working with photos, though, and especially love the challenge of getting someone's features right for a portrait while staying true to my artistic voice.  Being able to do this for a friend made it even more exciting and heartfelt.
